Designed for the military by Kit Carson, U.S. Army Sergeant Major (Ret.) with a full understanding of the functions of a tactical folder.
Those with a military background know what it means to earn the rank of Sergeant Major. After Kit Carson retired from the U.S. Army at that rank, he became a custom knifemaker, and began making his custom M16s for his former colleagues.
His M16M models are identical in construction to the popular CRKT aluminum M16, offering the same sure-grip contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized in Olive Drab. The stainless steel locking liners with friction grooves are also black Teflon® plated, and give positive locking with limited access, for superior safety.
The blades are imprinted with Gary Paul Johnston's 1* (one-ass-to-risk) reminder logo. All three models feature AUS 8 stainless steel blades, chosen for edge retention and durability. Black titanium nitride coating gives superior corrosion resistance. Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point Serrated edges for rugged cutting tasks that break down standard cutting edges. All models feature the Carson Flipper extension to the blade, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.
The M16-14M Big Dogs are hefty, full-size working knives with an extra strong dual grind Tanto blade.
The M16-13M features a spear point blade with a false top edge. It is a slim profile design that is ideal for a variety of carry positions.
The M16-12M is a little bulldog, packing a lot of power in a compact package. The dual grind Tanto blade offers maximum strength.
One-hand opening and closing is quick and smooth, the result of Teflon® bearings at the blade pivot. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered surface provides instant access in any circumstance.
These knives also incorporate the patented* Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®), which makes the folders virtual fixed blades when actuated.
Every model features a removable black Teflon plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip.
If you serve in the military, be careful out there! Carry one of the 1* model M16s. Designed for those who serve.

About Columbia River
Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) is a Wilsonville, Oregon-based manufacturer of quality knives and tools founded in 1994. The Columbia River Knife catalog has grown and is divided into two categories, Sport and Work Knives, intended for the general public; and Professional Knives, designed for the military, law enforcement, fire department, search and rescue and other emergency services personnel.
Founders, Rod Bremer and Paul Gillespie commented on the Columbia River Knife & Tool's rapid growth in the highly competitive cutlery industry: "We began with the vision of offering top quality knives at affordable prices to give the highest possible value," said Gillespie. Fortunately, because we were starting with a blank sheet of paper, we could make the new designs we wanted from the optimum materials, using the latest high tech manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, injection molding and fine blanking.
Before packing and shipping each Columbia River Knife & Tool knife, it is inspected for defects in materials and workmanship, the lock and cutting edge are checked, it is opened and closed to assure smoothness of action, and it is lubricated and adjusted if needed.
All Columbia River Knife & Tool knives are built incorporating the most advanced equipment and production systems available, and quality is controlled from beginning to end. Knives are built the way they should be built without compromising quality in any part of their creation. Columbia River Knife & Tool accessories are crafted to the same standards as the knives, so that each sheath, for example, lives up to the customers high expectations.
